FILOSOPHY · A GIFT GUIDE FROM KATIE
You want to give her something personal. But what would she actually wear?
That’s where I’d begin. Her taste tells you which piece to choose. Look at the jewelry she reaches for, the colors she wears, and whether she likes one small necklace or several pieces layered together.
Start with the colors she loves
Look at the colors she returns to. Does she love earthy greens, or does she usually choose something soft and neutral? A small stone can bring in color without becoming a big statement piece.
The gift can also honor someone she loves or a moment you share. Let the meaning come from your relationship with her.
Look at what she already wears
- Metal: Does she reach for silver, gold tones, or a mix? Start there.
- Scale: A tiny pendant suits someone who likes a small detail. A softly rounded stone adds color while keeping a simple shape.
- Length: Check the length of a necklace she already loves. Where 16 or 18 inches sits depends on the person.
- Care: Read the materials and care notes. These pieces should come off before swimming, showering, or exercising.

Which one would I choose?
| If she reaches for… | Start here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Gold tones and soft, neutral colors | Moonstone solitaire | A single pale stone with a soft blue sheen. Easy to wear alone or with her gold chains. |
| Earthy greens and a small pendant | Green turquoise pendant | A little color near her face; especially lovely with warm Autumn coloring. |
| Silver and minimalist shapes | Turquoise bar | Several earthy colors in a clean horizontal line, with a sterling silver chain. |
Take the guesswork out of length
If you can, measure a necklace she already wears, laid straight from clasp to end. Include any extender she uses. Match that length rather than guessing from her height or a model photo.
Sixteen inches gives a closer fit; eighteen adds two inches of room. Where either sits depends on her neck. For layering, look at the necklace she owns and choose a different length so the two pieces have room to show.
Before you choose, check these four things
- Does it work with the metal she wears most?
- Is the stone a color she chooses for herself?
- Have you checked the chain length?
- Can you tell her, in one sentence, why this made you think of her?
You don’t have to match a whole outfit. Start with something you’ve noticed about her.
Make the note as personal as the necklace
Tell her why you chose it. “I saw this green and thought of your eyes.” Or name the person or moment the stone represents. A few words in your own voice are enough.
